14 But Zion said, (A)“The Lord has forsaken me;
    my Lord has forgotten me.”

15 (B)“Can a woman forget her nursing child,
    that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
    yet I will not forget you.
16 Behold, (C)I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
    your walls are continually before me.
17 Your builders make haste;[a]
    (D)your destroyers and those who laid you waste go out from you.
18 (E)Lift up your eyes around and see;
    they all gather, they come to you.
(F)As I live, declares the Lord,
    (G)you shall put them all on as an ornament;
    you shall bind them on as a bride does.

19 “Surely your waste and your desolate places
    and your devastated land—
(H)surely now you will be too narrow for your inhabitants,
    and those who swallowed you up will be far away.
20 (I)The children of your bereavement
    will yet say in your ears:
(J)‘The place is too narrow for me;
    make room for me to dwell in.’
21 Then you will say in your heart:
    ‘Who has borne me these?
(K)I was bereaved and barren,
    exiled and put away,
    but who has brought up these?
Behold, I was left alone;
    from where have these come?’”

22 Thus says the Lord God:
“Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations,
    (L)and raise my signal to the peoples;
(M)and they shall bring your sons in their arms,[b]
    and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.
23 (N)Kings shall be your foster fathers,
    and their queens your nursing mothers.
(O)With their faces to the ground they shall bow down to you,
    and (P)lick the dust of your feet.
Then you will know that I am the Lord;
    (Q)those who wait for me (R)shall not be put to shame.”

24 Can the prey be taken from the mighty,
    or the captives of a tyrant[c] be rescued?
25 For thus says the Lord:
(S)“Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken,
    and the prey of the tyrant be rescued,
for I will contend with those who contend with you,
    and I will save your children.
26 (T)I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh,
    and they shall be drunk (U)with their own blood as with wine.
Then all flesh shall know
    that (V)I am the Lord your Savior,
    and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Teaching About Divorce

10 (A)And he left there and went (B)to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered to him again. And again, as was his custom, he taught them.

And Pharisees came up and in order (C)to test him asked, (D)“Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, (E)“Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” And Jesus said to them, “Because of your (F)hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But (G)from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them (H)male and female.’ (I)‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,[a] and (J)the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. (K)What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 11 And he said to them, (L)“Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and (M)if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

Let the Children Come to Me

13 (N)And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples (O)rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, (P)“Let the children come to me; (Q)do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 (R)Truly, I say to you, whoever does not (S)receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” 16 And (T)he took them in his arms and blessed them, (U)laying his hands on them.

The Rich Young Man

17 (V)And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and (W)knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to (X)inherit eternal life?” 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: (Y)‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he said to him, “Teacher, (Z)all these I have kept from my youth.” 21 And Jesus, (AA)looking at him, (AB)loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, (AC)sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have (AD)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 (AE)Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

23 And Jesus (AF)looked around and said to his disciples, (AG)“How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter (AH)the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples (AI)were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, (AJ)“Children, (AK)how difficult it is[b] to enter (AL)the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter (AM)the kingdom of God.” 26 And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him,[c] “Then who can be saved?” 27 Jesus (AN)looked at them and said, (AO)“With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” 28 Peter began to say to him, “See, (AP)we have left everything and followed you.” 29 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, (AQ)there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and (AR)for the gospel, 30 who will not receive a hundredfold (AS)now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, (AT)with persecutions, and in (AU)the age to come eternal life. 31 But (AV)many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

The Lord God has given (A)me
    the tongue of those who are taught,
that (B)I may know how to sustain with a word
    (C)him who is weary.
Morning by morning he awakens;
    he awakens my ear
    to hear as those who are taught.
(D)The Lord God has opened my ear,
    (E)and I was not rebellious;
    I turned not backward.
(F)I gave my back to those who strike,
    and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard;
I hid not my face
    from disgrace and spitting.

But the Lord God helps me;
    therefore I have not been disgraced;
(G)therefore I have set my face like a flint,
    and I know that I shall not be put to shame.
    (H)He who vindicates me is near.
Who will contend with me?
    Let us stand up together.
Who is my adversary?
    Let him come near to me.
(I)Behold, the Lord God helps me;
    who will declare me guilty?
Behold, all of them will wear out like a garment;
    the moth will eat them up.

10 Who among you fears the Lord
    and obeys (J)the voice of his servant?
(K)Let him who walks in darkness
    and has no light
trust in the name of the Lord
    and rely on his God.

Jesus Is Coming

And he said to me, (A)“These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of (B)the spirits of the prophets, (C)has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.”

“And behold, (D)I am coming soon. (E)Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

I, (F)John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, (G)I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, (H)but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those (I)who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”

10 And he said to me, (J)“Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. 11 (K)Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”

12 “Behold, (L)I am coming soon, (M)bringing my recompense with me, (N)to repay each one for what he has done. 13 (O)I am the Alpha and the Omega, (P)the first and the last, (Q)the beginning and the end.”

14 Blessed are those who (R)wash their robes,[a] so that they may have the right to (S)the tree of life and that (T)they may enter the city by the gates. 15 (U)Outside are (V)the dogs (W)and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

16 (X)“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things (Y)for the churches. I am (Z)the root and (AA)the descendant of David, (AB)the bright morning star.”

17 The Spirit and (AC)the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And (AD)let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the (AE)water of life without price.

18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: (AF)if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in (AG)the tree of life and in (AH)the holy city, which are described in this book.

20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely (AI)I am coming soon.” Amen. (AJ)Come, Lord Jesus!

21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.[b] Amen.
